Diabetics at TGI Friday

If you're a diabetic, then you must be extra careful while dining at TGI Friday. Try the salad menu at TGI Friday to keep your sugar and sodium intake in check. Soups are great to keep you full and satisfied without munching on the unhealthy greased meat-based dishes on TGI Friday menu.

Foods to Avoid at TGI Friday for Diabetics:

Sugar and sodium intake are crucial if you have diabetes. While the salads are the best option for you at TGI Friday, it is recommended to avoid the Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad containing over 1000 calories and 1,650mg sodium. Also, skip Warm Pretzels with Craft Beer-Cheese dipping sauce as it contains more than 3000mg sodium. Two words and the only two you will need to read about this restaurant: FOOD POISONING!!!!!!! Do not eat here!! Last Friday myself and 6 others ate here and myself and one other member of our party became violently ill with food poisoning after the meal. I had the mahi mahi and he had the captain's platter but I certainly would not trust anything else here. Save yourself 2 days in misery and pick another place.

We stopped by the Friendly Fisherman while at John's Pass with my father. Service was friendly but, a bit slow. It was the day after Christmas and they appeared under staffed. The food was ok. The blackened Grouper sandwich was cooked properly and the blackening had a nice flavor. The thick cut fries were ok. The slaw was excellent. Large pieces of torn cabbage and not overly sauced. This place is definitely touristy. If you're in the area it is an ok lunch spot but, certainly not someplace I'd seek out.

Normally I'm not much of a complainer, but this place was horrible. First off the waitress had a snippy attitude. She brings our food but seemed to had forgotten our silverware. So we sit there for a good 5 minutes waiting for our silverware.( As our food gets cold) She finally returns to tell us that there IS NO CLEAN SILVERWARE at the moment. Says they are washing them as we speak. I just kind of looked at her like WHA? Now the food wasn't horrible, but WAY WAY overpriced. I could have went to a more upscale restaurant for the same price and had a much better experience. Overall, I wasn't the least bit impressed. Actually, I left kind of pissed just knowing I spent all that money for some mediocre food. I DO NOT recommend this place. Go to Snappers on St Pete Beach. you'll pay the same price but have a top notch meal.

I got their seafood sampler plate. It was a typical sampler platter with scallop, shrimp, and I believe the fish was mahi. I recommend blackened or broiled instead of fried. That with a glass of shocktop was pretty nice. Nice view of the ocean and great weather! This is a great location to sit down, relax, and enjoy company. Pricing is decent for waterfront. The platter was around 16-19ish and drinks at the bar are normal price.

I stopped here to have a drink while visiting John's Pass. It's along the boardwalk but offers a lower deck closer to the water. There was also a guy out there singing Jimmy Buffet style music. Since we were just having a few drinks we chose to set along a bar overlooking the water. The draft beers were $3.00 and not very big (maybe half a pint). They have waiter service but a couple setting next to us set outside for a good 30 minutes before the guy on the mic stopped and did a shout out for some help on the deck from the staff. The majority of people got tired of waiting and just walked up to the bar to order. Even though the service wasn't great it was a nice spot to set and relax. While we were there we spotted a few dolphins and many different species of birds.

I checked in on Yelp over 35 minutes ago and we sat down over 45 minutes ago...and our food is still not here! The place is almost empty and there are probably 10 tables with people here. This is what happened when the place was packed too. The best thing here is the fried green tomatoes....but I wouldn't come here again due to the wait. My two kids are starving and we haven't had a refill on our water in over 20 minutes. Finally, we received our food. Scenery is beautiful...food is ok...service...not good at all.

Not a fan and service was terrible. Staff overwhelmed with crowds. Food was not good either and it was overpriced. I will stick with the pizza place across the street!!! 5 stars there!

Great location; however, food was not good at all. Food had no taste and was super expensive for the quality and amount. They were out of children items such as gator bites and the monkey drink.

Had the grouper sandwich, 16.95. Wife had the mahi mahi shrimp parmesan. Both were just average. If your looking to be blown away, I would go elsewhere. The boardwalk dining is fun.

After catching Grunt Fish at Hubbard's next door, you can bring the fish fillets to Friendly's to have them cook it up for $5.95/person. It's a cool restaurant on the marina with your typical Florida beach character. The food isn't outstanding, but it is good. The service is slow and seemingly short on patience. I think overall the experience was good because we made the best of it. What would have made it great was more attention when we were ready to order and pay. If you want a place next to Hubbard's to eat your catch, Friendly's is a good place to go.... but go with a little bit of patience. I think you will still have a good time and enjoy your food.

While taking a long weekend vacation my family (1 and 3 yr old) were on the prowl for a spot to grab lunch on the water. John's Pass was the easiest place to find and full of great little shops, ice cream places, and restaurants. We choose the Friendly Fisherman since it had waterfront views and lots of fish mounted on the walls, which my 3 yr old loved. The food, blackened grouper sandwiches, were excellent. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive to our needs and super friendly. My 1 yr old is practicing to become a baseball pitcher and chucked nearly everything is sight on the floor and the 3 yr old dumped her milk twice while we were there. Each time the waitress just laughed and brought extra napkins and refills. Was a little more expensive than I would have preferred, but it is in-line with the pricing of the all the other places we've tried in the area.

This restaurant has great food and with its location on the Boardwalk at Madeira Beach the seafood could not be any fresher! There was confusion with our checks and we did have a bit of a wait but with the scenery and the beautiful day we had, no one was complaining!

We went here because the atmosphere was great being right on the water next to all the boats. We were also trying to avoid going to Bubba Gump's since it's a chain. We had the grilled grouper and it was really bland...just tastless. We also had the peel-n-eat shrimp which were even more bland...no spice at all. We should have gone to Bubba Gump's or across the water to Gator's.

THe sheer size of this place (2 stories and as large as a big box store) makes for a "hit and miss" experience for some. When busy - you may miss on the best they can bring. We went on a Friday night and despite it being "boat regata" night outside mobbed with 100's of specators - our food all came promptly in sequence. From drinks, to appetizers, entrees, etc. No complaints here. But it is a well-known tourist attraction as well. I should mention I came alone (no family) a few nights later for oysters only downstairs at the raw bar and no one even acknowledeged me. So I left as I only had 40 minutes before joining others. That last experience is what I mean by "hit and miss".

  • Chuck A.

If it's halfway decent outside, sit on the patio. Gorgeous view of the water and no lack of quick service outside (Which sometimes happens at other places.) I got the swamp special which had frog legs, catfish and alligator. They were all very fresh like Kermit was on the chopping block in the kitchen. Great place to sit and have a meal on the boardwalk, people are walking by but not too many to make it bothersome.

  • Virginia G.

Terrible food and service. A Place only a tourist could like. Soggy fried food, greasy, salty, servers with really poor people skills, we'll never go back

2.5 stars... I initially came to Johns Pass to stroll through the village shops and to eat at Waltz Fish Shak. They weren't actually open when I went and I had to choose another seafood place on the fly without the assistance of Yelp (gasp!). I asked some locals where their favorite place was and both told me Dockside Daves about a mile down Gulf Blvd which ended up being closed for renovations when I went so I had to go with a random choice, the Friendly Fisherman in the heard of the village. I should have just gone to McDonalds and saved myself a few bucks. The service wasn't that friendly and the food wasn't that good. The blackened grouper was bland, sitting on little pools of butter as if it was broiled, and the portion was small. The baked sweet potato had a couple tiny sprouts sticking out of it and both it and the corn on the cob were grossly overcooked. Even the beer I got was a little dissppointing as it comes in a 12oz glass instead of a standard 16oz pint. I should have known this was a place relying on its history and location rather than true quality, after checking on Yelp, it seems to be the case for almost all the places in the village (which isn't too surprising).

This place stinks. We were seated in a dirty crowded room with the FILTHIEST windows I have ever seen in a restaunt. We waited 15 minutes. No menus. No drink orders. No servers. Nothing. Then we left. A dirty dump.

  • Ken Y.

Service was great, food was a disappointment. We tried to like it. Figured that we could try an appetizer, a salad, and share an entree. My wife ordered a crab cake. We took our server's advice and opted for cups of the clam chowder over what sounded like a bland salad. We shared the blackened grouper with an extra side of scallops, broiled. Both the scallops and Grouper we bland. If we had to do it over, I think we would have stopped at the cups of soup.

  • David T.

My son had the swordfish and could not eat it. If you know and eat at restaurants in the Treasure Island area you will be very disappointed eating here. The grouper sandwiches seemed to me to be about half the size of most places I've eaten and at $17.00 you get to choose ether french fries or coleslaw only one not both. Very expensive for not much food in my opinion. Never again will we go to that place.

Best seafood in the area hands down. Try the Blackened Grouper sandwich if you go! Nice views of harbor and drawbridge. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a night out with friends or family.

Visited the FF this past weekend during the Pirate Days festivities. The location is simply awesome. It is located right along the boardwalk, right in the heart of bustling, touristy, John's Pass. The restaurant has a nautical atmosphere with the obligatory fishing nets and sword fish mounted throughout the restaurant. I admit I should've ordered Seafood but I was in the mood for a salad. Until mine came that is. I had a blackened chicken salad that was pretty much tasteless. It wasn't awful, just lacking any sort of flavor. The chicken was kind of dry and the dressing was a . Wifey had the "sea dog," which is a fried fish plank on a hot dog bun, with tater tots. She enjoyed it. A friend had the Mahi Mahi sandwich that was average size, but tasty. The prices are reasonable enough. Our waitress was nice, but very busy as we expected. She did a good job of keeping her head just above the weeds. Overall, this restaurant is a 6 out of 10. Hooters and Bubba Gump are nearby and give you pretty much the same fare. The Hut on the other hand I would avoid. I've been there a few times because of coupons, but every time I come away disappointed. If you're visiting John's Pass and looking for an inexpensive lunch or dinner, you should stop by, if you're a local - you know better places.

This place rates a 2.5 stars. I had the turbot. It was a nice flaky white fish. I ordered it Cajun style. I don't know where they came up with this recipe, but it isn't even close to Cajun. It was a simple pan fried fish dish. There was no detectable cayenne pepper seasoning. They need to come up with a decent Cajun recipe for their fish for a solid 3 star rating.

This review is long overdue -- I've been enjoying excellent meals at the Friendly Fisherman for years, and it's always a favorite stop on our visits down from NYC. The location is perfect -- love the water views and proximity to the great shops and ice cream (shout out to Kilwin's!). The service is always excellent -- courteous, attentive, and prompt. And the food is the draw -- best shrimp I've ever tasted (the "You Peel 'Em's are refreshing and delicious, always), and I love the touch of the corn fritters on the side for a little something sweet. I'm allergic to "fin fish" so can't judge that, but I do know my husband LOVES the grouper sandwich! All in all, "The Friendly" is a must when visiting John's Pass.

Fresh food, good service, nice atmosphere. We had a broiled trout, the crab combo and the broiled scullops. All were very good. It's not a fancy place, so what? I've read the reviews here before coming and luckily was not deterred. Folks, if you don't like fried food, don't order fried food. They have plenty of options.

Very long wait even on a Tuesday night. Blackened Tilapia was excellent! The cole slaw has bits of pineapple in it for sweetness & was super good. Every dinner comes with fried corn fritters. They were good too. Fried clam platter was exactly as you would expect. Overall we were happy with our meal but the long wait was very hard with small kids

    (4)
  • Miss J.

Looking at previous reviews I guess you can't make everyone happy. Our experience was ok. I wish they had less fried and more grilled or baked on their menu. But it's a boardwalk restaurant that's starting to show age. We didn't have to wait and while the waitress seemed a bit annoyed at first she came through at the end. The portions were more than enough. Pretty but nothing mind blowing. Yay! it was OK.

Nice location overlooking the wharf. Food was a-ok. Crab legs were super salty. Grouper was ok, but thin compared to other beach restaurants. gofriendlyfisherman.com Food: 3 stars Service: 3 Ambiance: 4 stars Overall: 3 star

  • Jen N.

This restaurant was disappointing. They boast a great view of the pier, and as far as we could tell, the seafood they serve is fresh. The gulf oysters were sweet and crisp and their crab cake was majority crab and almost no filler. However, they were out of grouper when we visited and the rest of the menu was dominated by fried and imported seafood. The service was also slow and left us with a bad impression of this tourist trap restaurant.

    (2)

We brought our fresh catch and they cooked it up! It was so great and super cheap. Came with two sides and conch fritters.

    (3)
  • Bryan H.

Holy Fried! I could have used a fair warning that "Cajun" meant fried and no descriptor also means fried. It's hard to screw up fried food, so it tasted, well, like fried seafood. I won't be going back! The service was super fast!

    (2)
  • Keith K.

We (party of 5) ate at this restaurant and everyone had a problem with the quality of their meal. Two had Mahi and it was rubbery and overdone. The fried fish and shrimp was overdone and tough. The fried oysters were over done with to much breading. Another had rubbery scallops. The bill was high for the poor quality food! I don't think we will be back!

    (1)
  • Kristen M.

I ordered the tilapia and my husband the mahi mahi - both were tasteless. The ambience in the restaurant is boring and the service mediocre. We will not be coming back here.

    (1)

Super fast service here! The corn fritters & the mahi mahi nuggets were very good here. Cole slaw was so so. Seafood is caught locally which should be the case at any seafood restaurant, but you would be surprised.

Ok but they don't serve any vegetables with your meal. The salmon was pretty good.

My wife and I stopped for a quick lunch. We were seated after a 10 minute wait. We sat at the window, great for people watching. Service and kitchen was quick. Food was very good. My wife had the shrimp and scallop salad. I had blackened red snapper sandwich. We would order same again. I was looking for more fresh fish on the menu. What they have is very good.

I thought we already had the worst seafood in Sarasota, Fl, until this place. The service was bad, but nowhere near as bad as the food. A friend of ours had to return his seafood pasta because the sauce was just white water they call Alfredo. The server even agreed that the Alfredo was watery and still served it. The replacement meal was just as bad, once again no flavor. This place survives solely on the tourist robbery train. Even my beer tasted watered down. Save yourself some money and go to any of the other restaurants on the strip and you will be happier then walking into this tourist trap.

    (1)
  • Brian N.

Great place to go if you have kids and don't care about food quality as much. The food was good, but we've definitely had better. The service was good though, and they were very kid friendly. You can definitely do worse, but you can also do better. This is a very touristy area and a touristy kind of restaurant. They did have a bar downstairs right on the water. If we were to go back, it would be for the bar and without the kids, and not to eat.

  • Michelle W.

nothing friendly about this place horrible staff.......walked out because nobody even came to table after 5 minutes, eventhough they had walked by three times, but the table that was sat after us was served. went back to let management know how their restaurant was being run, and it seemed like they could care less i know it's a" historical" spot, but get with the times!! I would never give this establishment my hard earned money when your choices are endless.

waterfront view?.. sure they have it, but all you'll be looking at is the casino boat across the waters.. seafood?.. yes.. but it's just your basic .. fried, blacken, cajun, etc.. there's no unique flavoring.. so if you're looking for some exotic and unique seafood..look elsewhere.. fresh oysters?.. not really fresh.. they prepped it too early on (removing one side of the shell)...and it lost its freshness.. so the redeeming qualities.. clam chowder..not the best ..but probably one of the better chowders i've tried in florida.. i wouldn't compare it to san fran's or the crab cooker's manhattan red clam chowder..but it was good.. and you can actually see and taste the chunks of clam and potatoes. so those hush puppies they call "corn fritters"... are quite yummy... i never had fresh ones before.. always frozen ..and it was nice.. crispy on the outside..and soft in the inside..plus the powdered sugar and honey .. so it's the first time i've had gator.. and those gator bites were pretty good (as a first timer..i've got nothing to compare it too..so bare that in mind).. so it's an okay place to eat if you're in the neighborhood and just wanted something quick and easy to eat.. and you don't care for unique flavoring..i wouldn't drive out of my way to come here.. but i would come here again if i was around the area and was craving seafood..

Blondie and I have eaten here multiple times and she calls this place, "The best breakfast in the whole wide world!" While I won't go that far I do admit that they do a really good job consistently. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and generally do pretty well with Blondie's substitutions. We ate breakfast there again a week ago and I had the scrambled eggs with crab cake and it was delicious. Blondie had her stock 2, 2, and 2 and they did a good job on getting her bacon crispy the way she likes. Very good place to go for good food and not have to spend a lot. They also make a really good Bloody Mary. Kudos!

Nice place. The location is awesome and if your a fan of deep sea fishing, you can actually have them cook what you caught in the restaurant. It's been a couple years since I've been here, but as I remember it was fantastic. It is part of a giant tourist trap, but who cares as long as you have good scenery and good food.

The best corn fritters I've ever had. Great fries, wonderful fried clams, and yummy grouper sandwiches. Not to mention a great location and great service. I would go back in a heartbeat.

A bit on the greasy side, but generally really good, fresh seafood. Nothing fancy inside but it does have its own charm. The wood floors and nautical feel, plus the view of John's Pass give it a cool ambiance. The prices are reasonable, and you couldn't do much better for seafood in the Madeira Beach area.

  • Virginia D.

One word...BLAND! Went to this on our last night in Madeira Beach and what an awful way to end the evening. Went because friends said "the locals eat there." Well the locals must not have taste buds! Had some drinks in the bar while waiting for our table and it was watered down. Went upstairs and ordered the crab cake (came with lots of shells) and "corn" fritters which were basically fried donuts with 1 or 2 kernels of corn in it. I ordered the grouper sandwich (broiled) and my husband ordered it fried. Both were SEVERELY under seasoned. The "tartar" sauce was all mayo. Save your money and head to The Pirate Ship!

Yes, this restaurant is touristy. Fortunately, I'm a tourist, as I suspect are 99% of the people at John's Pass. That's what it's there for. But there's good touristy & bad touristy. FF is great! FF is a local establishment (owned by Hubbard's Marina), it's been there for at least the 25 years I've been vacationing in the area, & the food is delicious! As a teenager and young adult, my go-to was always crab legs, which, while undoubtedly frozen (unless king crab migrated south without my knowledge), was always delicious. Now that I'm older & appreciate fresh fish more, you can't beat their grilled grouper with a stick. Order it with a side of hollandaise. You're welcome. They also have a respectable caprese salad, but this isn't the place for fresh buffalo mozzarella & heirloom tomatoes, so if that's what you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. The service can be a little slow if it's uber busy, but I've never had any serious service problems. The servers have always been competent & friendly. One of the hostesses (we eat here multiple times per visit to the area) was also particularly sweet this last visit - a young blonde girl with a braid. As other reviewers have noted, the view is amazing. Whether looking at the water & boats or the often hilarious array of people walking by on the boardwalk ("I promise I'll pull out" tee shirts, anyone?), it's dinner & a free show. If you want to eat outdoors, there's upstairs seating on the boardwalk or you can eat on the dock of the bar downstairs, right on the water, with the same menu. Eating downstairs is particularly helpful in avoiding noisy children whose parents have no business taking them in public in the first place. Sadly, FF does not have "children" & "non children" sections. However, you are giving up air conditioning to sit downstairs, as well as the cool, old school, wood wainscoting & nautical decor that I'm glad they haven't changed in the last 25 years. Great fresh fish at an old school, locally owned restaurant on the water. Great touristy, definitely.

FF is owned by Hubbard's Marina and has been a part of John's Pass for 25 years. The view is the best part. Food is pretty good for the tourist trap it is. Service is iffy and prices are obviously very high. Your best bet would be to go out on the FF boat in Hubbard's Marina and fry your catch for a small charge. It'd cost $60 altogether and still be cheaper than your (families) meal

Wasn't too sure about this place given the smell from the boardwalk on a 90°day made it overly fishy. Sat inside, party of 5 and we love to eat! Sat down right away on a busy 4th of July weekend. *** Lots of kids to tolerate in the restaurant *** (holiday weekend) Our service was ok, server could of kept up on the water service. Conch fritters were good app. The spicy shrimp w a saucy thai/chili paste app was ...mediocre. too much sauce can drown out a perfectly fried shrimp. ***note to chef... Fish tacos were great. Burger was good. Grouper sandwich was good. Dont get the crafe of Red Sangria, too bland. Overall, 3 stars. Too much fried food on the menu... Ok choice for a very touristy area.

Our party of seven got together during Sunday lunch hour, and we all loved it. The place has a beautiful view of Johns Pass from all seating choices, inside or out. The place was as busy as expected, but there was just a few minute wait, and the service was quick, caring and correct from start to finish. Our orders ranged from Stuffed Mushrooms, Ceasar Salad with plenty of shrimp, Burgers, Pasta and an excellent Seafood Medley that was loaded with scallops, shrimp and fish, and was fresh, tasteful and very well made. Everyone complimented to each other about how much they we enjoyed their food, and we'll be certain to keep the place on the rotation list.

The clam chowder was delicious with large strips of tasty clam meat. The stuffed mushrooms were also very well done. Portion sizes were nice too.

Came in for lunch and ordered a grilled grouper sandwich which came with fries for around $16. The fries were stale and tasted like they were refried. The bun was also very stale and unpleasant to eat. The actual grouper wasn't too bad but did need some additional seasoning. Service was about average. I do not think we would return again.

I was there August 15th with friend. It was late at night towards closing time. The ambiance was nice and the place was packed. Not bad for a night when it was storming pretty badly. We made a to go order of fish and chips, red grouper sandwich, and corn fritters. For some reason they packed the fritters with fish and chips instead of on there own. The food was alright. Have had better have had worse. The big issue however was the corgi sized cockroach in the lobby. We had to point it out to the staff and they didn't seem to concerned about it. I mean they got rid of it but the only real response was that they were rates very clean, though I never saw anything pertaining to there health inspection visible. I used to work in a restaurant so I know if there was cockroach that size in there there are probably many more. I can not recommend this establishment because of this.

The crab stuffed tilapia was excellent. I had the baked sweet potato as a side, it was delicious. I would highly recommend for fish/seafood lovers.

Typical tourist restaurant on boardwalk. We ate a late lunch here twice. It's was OK for lunch, nothing impressive. Fast and friendly waitress service. Our meals came quick. They were very busy. A bit pricey but you pay for the water view. Not the best we ever had, but we thought overall it was good.

I would have loved to leave a detailed review on my experience here...but I guess they just don't care. My wife and I sat down for our anniversary dinner- hoping for some decent food with excellent atmosphere- Unfortunately after my one drink was delivered to the table- our server never returned. When I asked for the check out of frustration- I was acknowledged then, once again, the server never returned Temped to walk out without paying for my drink, my conscience got the better of me and I walked to the bar to offer to pay for my drink- the server took my $20 and walked over to the register...and never came back with my change...and almost likens didn't exist- walked away again. Eventually I got my change and left. I would have given this place less than a star if possible, but for the cost of a $4.55 margarita my wife and I had a nice place to sit and watch the Dolphins for 30 minutes while we were ignored. Now, if you want amazing food and don't care about Dolphins , walk a few hundred feet to The Boardwalk Grill and have the best damn food on the board walk. Sorry friendly fisherman- all I wanted to do was give you my money, guess you didn't want it

Grabbed dinner here. My husband ordered the Oysters Rockefeller and he said they were absolutely delicious. I got the grouper sandwich and wasn't impressed. It tasted very bland despite the fact that it was supposed to be blackened. I also got the Coconut Colada in a coconut monkey which was fun. The service was average, the food was average... but the view from our booth was phenomenal!

First, I have to preface this by saying that it has been a month since we visited the Friendly Fisherman... And the food was so "meh", I can't even remember what I had. It is VERY touristy, as others have noted. If you enjoy really fresh, local seafood, I would try another place. What I do remember is that everything tasted very processed, very overcooked. And very expensive for what it was. However, the location is nice, right on John's Pass. And my daughter still loves her coconut monkey head...

My bf and I love returning here for the Smoked Fish Spread. Ask to sit by the water on the deck and you get a great view of the dolphins here and occasionally manatees. They can make just about any beverage you like and the food is pretty good. We will return.

While my family was visiting John's Pass we were looking for a nice late lunch/early dinner and wandered into Friendly Fisherman. We tried first to sit outside but the small tables were bolted to the ground and couldn't be moved. Our party of 7 decided to sit inside rather than split up. The place was relatively empty but it was sometime between 3 and 4pm so it was an odd time. I had been hoping they had a lobster roll on their menu like some of the restaurants on the boardwalk but they did not. I didn't want anything fried or super heavy so that eliminated quite a bit of the menu. I ended up ordering the half pound of peel and eat shrimp (cold) with fries as the side. The shrimp was really great, not fishy in the slightest. It was clearly very fresh. Also, half a pound of shrimp is a lot of shrimp. Our waitress was very nice and attentive but even though the place wasn't very full it felt very loud. It was hard to hear anything happening at the other end of the table. Overall a nice place to grab some fresh seafood.

Just another tourists spot. The food is ok at best...definitely not my go to for seafood in the area. I had the grouper sandwich which I'd say was average at best. The foods not bad, just average with an inflated price.

  • Yuriy K.

Great food, great quick service. Have to try the smoked fish dip, the corn fritters are awesome, must get extra. We had the blackened grouper. Will come back.

A great place with an awesome atmosphere! I am not a fan of seafood so I cannot speak for that aspect but my boyfriend had the fried grouper sandwich and I think he would have gotten 2 if he could! We also had the mozzarella squares which were different and yummy!

    (5)
  • Casey S.

I order the scampi and the waitress said it was a garlic seasoned dish. Well it was not seasoned well at all. My husband got fish and chips and it was average nothing exciting to talk about. Not worth the money!

The service is so slow!!! I like leisure but I still would like some service. It took almost 20 minutes after asking to get water! The food is okay, which is why I'm giving this place 2 stars. The clam chowder is good- I'd suggest trying that. Grooper is okay.

This restaurant's location is prime. It's conveniently located steps from where the fishing boat docks. For $6.95 per person, they will prepare your fresh catch as you wish. We brought in a 12-lb grouper. One large filet was Cajun fried (AMAZINGLY delicious) and the other large filet was blackened perfectly. Each plate came with coleslaw, fries (can choose any 2 sides) & the super yummy corn fritters. Service was a bit slow to start. But the wait staff are nice. Will definitely eat here again.

At John's Pass in Madeira beach, there you will find a fun and great experience where you would find a restaurant like the Friendly Fisherman Seafood Restaurant while walking along the famous boardwalk. Full of awesome scenery and fun shops to checkout, not to mention you are also at walking distance to three well known beaches in the area. At this time I don't have many pictures to offer on account of rain and thunderstorm occurring during my one day visit... I will revisit on a much pleasant day for picture taken... Back to the restaurant. Started the meal off with a warm heavy creamed and very tasty New England Clam Chowder. The main course was the Captain's Seafood Sampler dish. Nice squared piece of a baked grouper. Along with a few steamed scallops and fried shrimp on a bed of wild rice. All was very tasty and a fun place to dine. The service was excellent!

  • Michael C.

We came for the breakfast as it was highly rated. However, breakfast is no longer available. Clam chowder is great though. As were the grouper sandwiches. Side note: our waitress, Sonja, was amazing. She even had a Tide stick when my wife spilled on herself!

  • Kelley C.

Not so friendly. Went here once and the hostess and servers seemed a bit unwelcoming and uninviting, enough so that we left. We went again and had lunch. I'd say it was typical. We asked about the fish tacos and the server was unable to tell us what kind of fish was used, she said it depended on the day. They were average. Typical drinks. A runner brought us our food and asked if we needed anything and when we asked for a drink refill, he looked like a deer in the headlights. He said he'd go get someone for us. It wasn't horrible but I would try about every other place on John's Pass before I'd go to this place again.

We were visiting the area and decided to eat here. The corn fritters were AWESOME. I had the stuffed tilapia and that was great as well. However, I asked the server (before ordering) what would she recommend, since it was my first visit. Her answer was "everything is good here". I figured that because the place was PACKED, the food was good but the service was not good, never received a refill. The view is just amazing, the food is good, maybe I will have better luck next time with a better server.

Excellent service, pretty view. My grouper sandwich was the best. Even the coleslaw was tasty. My spouse had the burger and said it was good as we're the fries, hot and crisp!

Great waterfront view. Eat downstairs and outside for best views. Same food downstairs as in dining room. Okay seafood. No real veggie choices as either a side or entree. Good fried food on the water is what this is

"The wait staff were friendly, but the food was mediocre." Just a tourist and I must say the atmosphere was more exciting than the food! When I arrived with my party of four, we were seated outside on plastic chairs and tables. The plastic covered menu's were greasy and our table wobbled, but the view and breeze was nice. Our first indication that this restaurant might not be all that great was by the lack of business it had at lunchtime. We arrived at 12:30 and it was virtually a ghost town. Our waitress recommended the Chowder. It was awful, not sure how she could eat a bowl of that each day as she claimed?! I'm sure she hasn't set her pallet to New England Clam Chowder yet, because she'd surely not recommend this if she had! The food is frozen or canned prepared, not fresh. If you want good seafood or fresh meals this is NOT your place, but if you like a festive location and don't mind eating french fries then you're in luck! The atmosphere was fun, even my five year old daughter enjoyed all the maritime decor.

I've lived in St Pete all my life and this place has always been great for comfort food. Good, hearty, unpretentious fare in a casual dining room with a great view. It's a good place to go if you have kids with you or if you're just jonesing for some fresh scallops from some place that ain't a chain. Their clam chowder and sweet hush puppies are my favorite. I'd wrestle a dolphin for them hush puppies.

  • Stephanie P.

Food subpar for the price. Flounder had some "Rockafeller" sauce on it that I couldn't identify and had WAY to much. Corn Fritters were basically a ball of fried dough. Stuffed Talapia was very bland and greasy. Guess my standards are set higher being from Charleston South Carolina. Would not recommend.

The service and ambiance were OK, but the food was poor at best. The catfish and sides lacked seasoning. The grouper sandwich was OK, but the fish portion was small. Keep searching for that seafood spot.

Awesome grouper sandwich. Excellent service. Great prices. Loved the atmosphere. The view was amazing. We were looking for a casual Tshirt/shorts place to eat after a day at the beach. So relaxing and the food was great!!

Came here based on a friend's recommendation. I have never seen a restaurant running out of some many items on its menu. For drink, it ran out of Sam Adams; for main course, it ran out of Grouper; for side, it ran out of sweet potatoes. To a point, I found it very amusing. The food it did have is average at best. The Mahi Mahi was bland. The Clam Chower had too much flour, not enough chowder. Despite the kitchen not having the items we ordered, the wait staff was very friendly and cheerful. A great place to watch dolphins and pelicans, but I won't go back for the food.

My family used to vacation in this area once a year and we always had dinner here. Today we are in the tampa area and went to johns pass for lunch Strictly for old times sake to show our children the place we used to go when they were little. It has been 10 now years since we were last here. We sat down stairs outside by the water our waitress was a bit slow however was very polite and took care of all our needs in a slow pace. our orders consisted of burgers, fries, onion wrings, calamari, shrimp and hush puppies the burgers were nice and juicy and the fries and onion wrings and calamari were all crispy and cooked perfectly. My only complaint would be the service, our waitress as I stated was a bit slow, and the surprise with the food was the waitress dropped off our appetizer walked to the kitchen and turn around and brought our food so we had everything in front of us at once. So the timing could have been spread out better. But the food was great

I strongly feel this restaurant deserves more than three stars! I am vacationing in the area and stopped in with a party of 8. We were seated very fast! And our server went above and beyond to satisfy us! My date and I shared the seafood Alfredo and we requested that shrimp be the only seafood in the Alfredo and our server made sure it was prepared to our liking! It tasted incredible! Very satisfactory!

After finally leaving the restaurant we noticed a error in the billing, went back inside and thought I squared it away. they charged $10.00 too much so they cancelled the transaction and I paid the correct amount, or so i was lead to believe. the next day I check my account and had 2 charges on my wife's card, she had originally paid. One for $59.00 and the other for the $19.00, and my card which I was supposed to pay only the $9.09 was charged $34.09. the waitress gave her self a $25 tip on my card when we left tip in credit card wallet. Mistake or not had to cancel credit cards and while on Vacation this is un acceptable!

We brought the kids for dinner here, and the food was very fresh. My husband ate the Mahi Mahi, and I had the best salmon salad I've ever had here. Great service, but a little loud for our taste. Lots of young babies/kids during the time we were there. Food and service was very good.

Just moved back to Florida and we were craving seafood with a view. Strolled along the boardwalk shops and spots to eat, and came across this place. We chose to sit on the lower deck with the view of the bay. It was just perfect! All the boats passing by, the pelicans perched on the dock and of course seagulls. The smell of the fresh sea air makes the meal better. Ordered the clam chowder, calamari & a dozen steamed oysters. We had our chowder come out first, all clam chowders are prepared differently. This was different, thick and a bit runny on the bottom. Stirred mine before to get all things mixed well. I was shocked instead of chunks of oysters, it was strips! Came with crackers as all chowders do, and dipped a few. The steamed oysters, which I've never had, were pretty good. I guess it's a texture thing, just top with lemon juice & hot sauce. Ate about 4 while my fiancé polished the remaining 8 off. He is all about scrapping that foot off each shell. The calamari was the same as it is everywhere, lightly fried and crispy with marinara for dipping. Enjoyed watching one of the large Fisherman's fishing boats back in to it's docking spot. Beautiful view, just relaxed and enjoyed our meal. Will go back to try more.

2 stars for the wait staff. They were very friendly. As far as the food- meh at best. Not very good. Not terrible, just not good. Also, at $16 for a grouper sandwich, you'd expect a decent piece of fish. It was mostly bun. The fish portion was slider size at best. The shrimp salad plate was just OK as was the "fish" and chips plate. No idea what kind of fish it was.

We always eat at this restaurant when we're in town. The location is the key for me. Living in Central Ohio doesn't provided any options for waterfront dining. We have tried many things on their menu and have enjoyed them all. I've had the fried grouper sandwich, fried clam platter, and various other seafood items. We also brought in our catch from the charter boat and they fried it up. Now THAT was great. As part of the going on the Hubbard's fishing boat you can bring your catch to the restaurant and they'll prepare it however you like, include a couple sides as well for a few dollars. Considering we had a huge pile of fish, this was a great deal. It's a fun dining experience, but I'd imagine you could get fancier seafood dishes elsewhere if that's your thing. I'm not one to get all bothered about that stuff. The seafood here has never tasted fishy and it's always hot. The service has been hit/miss.

Inside was busy and I had thought it was going to take a while for our food to arrive but it was actually not a long wait. Food was good and tasted good. They ran out of calamari so we couldn't get that. Not a biggie. I ordered fantail shrimp. Comes with 10 regular sized shrimp. I think the shrimp boat would have been better. Smaller shrimp but double the size portion. The Oysters on the appetizer menu is a must order! It is buttery though which makes it taste good and fattening. My wife ordered one lobster tail. Had some seasoning on top of it. Quality was decent. Not bad at all. It was a bit in the tough side. I'd prefer it more soft and chewy. Overall it was a good place. If you're around the area, stop by and try it.

This is a tough one to write. The Friendly Fisherman is nestled in one of the areas biggest tourist traps, John's Pass. The outside fascade is nifty. Reminds you of Cedar Key or a long-ago fishing village. Step inside and see bright red, sunburned crunchy tourists. The menu is Meh. Not horrible but definitely nothing to rave home about. The two ladies I went with both had a seafood pasta dish that they raved about. I ordered the grouper which was thin and the edges way over cooked. Luckily they had a barrel of tarter sauce to help. But with all the beautiful grouper on tons of menus around town, there is zero reason to overcook it. The service was also a bit sad. A very frazzled young waitress who we had to ask for the most obvious of things. i.e, appetizer comes out.. no plates or silverware. By the time those come out, the app is getting cold. Common sense things to me to being a server. I asked about wines as there wasn't a list. White wines: House chard & Reisling. That's it folks. So I passed and we ordered a pitched of sangria. It was tasty and hit the spot. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here but it wouldn't be the worst meal you ever had if you stopped in.

This place was fantastic! We got there around 5pm and placed our order. We had three adults and 4 kids which we managed to seat at a decent table. It was not crowded but our order got misplaced, we got our food eventually just shortly after our kids food and just in time after my shot of Jack and the Rum runner set in! It was fantastic and the perfect end to a good day:) As we were eating I couldn't help but overhear the manager managed to find the other large group find a diaper for their baby which was awesome! As a mother of 4 I couldn't help but think how helpful that was for her to do. This crew goes above and beyond the norm and even takes group selfies for you if you can't manage in your state of inebriation:p overall a great place and home-town feel staff:): would go back any day!

My visit was just okay. Really friendly staff and the food came out fast. I got the Seafood Alfredo. It was not good. Very soupy and the shrimp still had their tails. The rest of my family mildly enjoyed their meals. The general consensus was meh. I won't be back by choice.

This is a little unusual review because it starts a little bad but gets much better. We have 5 families vacationing together in the area. We all know we can't expect to eat dinner together every night with 22 total people. However, we did want to one night and thought Sunday would be the best choice for lower volume of people out. We all went to Johns pass hoping to make something work with no reservations. A tall order, we know. This place looked promising with open seating available downstairs. We went to work arranging our own tables and chairs. A "manager" of some sort came down to the bar area and was gesturing with anger towards our party while speaking with his wait staff. It was very clear he did not want our large party there last night as they were apparently very busy in the upstairs dining room. I was prepared to leave and had already called another favorite place of mine that assured me they could accommodate and welcome us. As I was giving our group this other option, our primary server approached me. Jessica was positive, had a great attitude and assured me her and her fellow bar tender/server would take care of us. I was a little hesitant based on the body language of the previously mentioned manager, but Jessica seemed so cool and confident I relented. First, let me say, she had no problem dividing all the checks up instead of forcing it all onto bill one for us to figure out at the end. Good start. I volunteered to help carry the drinks but Jessica said she had it covered. I did not get her coworkers name, but they both were friendly and fast. Soft drinks, cocktails, waters, kids drinks, all came out fast. I had lower expectations for the food. I was proved wrong. We had a huge variety of food of course. And, everyone was happy!!!! No cold entrees, no bad food, from 3 year old to 50 year olds, everybody was pleased. I was shocked. Congratulations, you took a difficult dining situation and aced it! Thanks to the kitchen, the staff overall, and especially to our 2 all star servers! We will come back this week, just not all at the same time!!! Food highlights, I was happy with the fish spread, the crab cake, the fish and chips were particularly fresh and good. Not pre packed cod that was for sure. Cole slaw was better than average. My fresh fish sand which was good. A broiled fish sandwich can be tough to keep warm but mine was still temp hot when set in front of me. Nice. I am going to say a 4 on the food just because it's hard to please 22 people at one sitting. And a 5 for the service for the same reasons.

We've eaten here a couple times to have them cook the fish we caught on Hubbard's Marina trips. It's really neat that they do that- you can have it cooked up to four different ways and it comes with a few sides. I docked some stars because the side salad was very sad- just iceberg with a few giant onion slices and a cherry tomato. Also, our daughter had the clam chowder and it had way more clumps of flour than clams. Fried oysters are good though, and service is great. Would do 3.5 stars if I could.

I love a good themed restaurant. Even the cheesy campy kind. This whole Waterfront in Medeira Beach is incredible. Reminds me of Sweethaven from the movie, Popeye. But besides all that, who can resist the awesome views and feeling of beachside living in a shanty dock village. I mean they are cutting up fish right there as they get off the boat: Talk about fresh. Try this place out, you will love it.

This was a very disappointing eating experience. The service was dismal!!! Our waiter was ill prepared. He brought us water (upon request) without straws. We waited almost half an hour for our food. When they brought it they failed to bring flatware. Beware the Mrs. Somebody (I don't remember the name) salad for $3.49. It was a small plate of iceberg lettuce, one cherry tomato and two rings of red onion. All in all an exceptionally disappointing experience.

I'll bump this up to five stars when they bring back Captain Jeff's sandwich, which has been taken off the menu for the time being (or so we were told last week). The service and food here is really good including their extra large specialty drinks (I recommend the Rum Runner!). Please bring the Captain Jeff's sandwich back though!!!!

The location was great with plenty of outdoor seating. Waitress was really nice and attentive. The only thing was the beers were small and pricey.

I fished on the charter that morning for 5 hours and when we got back, the crew informed us that for $8 the friendly fisherman would cook my catch and include hush puppies and fries. We got my fish blackened and fried. They did a wonderful job with the food. The hush puppies were quite a bit sweeter and more fluffy than traditional, and they had a slight dusting of powdered sugar. Some like that and some will not.

The food here was pretty good, however the dining experience not so much. The booth for 4 people would have comfortable sat 2 or 4 6 year olds, our waitress barely came around. The hostess was nice but didn't grasp the concept of putting names on a list. We watched as a party of 5 who were seated after us get food before us. It wasn't bad food, wasn't the best, and definitely not something I would repeat.

Wait staff was not terribly well informed about either the menu or beer selection. The broiled scallops and shrimp had almost no flavor. The margarita was not good at all. You're better off at Bubba Gumps if that's any indication.

I got the broiled shrimp and daughter got the shrimp and scallops broiled. Vey good, came with grilled yellow squash, zucchini and mushrooms as well as rice pilaf. Plus corn fritters (sweet!) and 1 side. I got coleslaw which was very good. Daughter got fries. We both really enjoyed our meals and will definitely return :)

Would you like your chicken rubber-ized? Can we say 'nuke' it by microwave? Food was horrible! Served marinara sauce in a PLASTIC cup. OK. If the food was good, it would still eek me to see stuff served that way. I wasn't expecting a fancy restaurant, just food that tasted like food and not plastic. CHEAP quality!

Great location on the boardwalk. It's a seafood restaurant but the only thing I found appealing on the menu was the 12 oz Ribeye steak for $22.95. It was good. So good I came back a few days later and ordered it again. The seafood looked kind of boring like something you will find in any chain seafood restaurant. It needs a signature dish or something to start a buzz especially when they have so much competition along the boardwalk. I just couldn't figure out what was missing from that place. Overall my dining experience was ok.

This was our second time back here, returning for the Grouper sandwich which is a great! However, when we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess, Carley, who didn't seem happy to be there. My grandma started to walk into the almost empty dining room to the table she preferred to sit at. Carley was bringing us to a different table and seemed annoyed that we were choosing another table. We asked if it was a problem that we chose our own table and with a rude tone, said "not really". After we sat, we all witnessed Carley go to the servers standing by the computer and they we're talking about us; as they laughed and looked over to our table, they looked surprised that we were all witnessing this rude behavior, and looked away quickly. Being a server at a restaurant where this attitude and rudeness is NOT acceptable behavior, I was appalled. Our server, Amber, was pleasant, but I don't think I saw a smile on any of the staff the whole time we were in the dining room. Aside from the customer service, the food was mediocre. Our burger came out medium-well when we specified rare. My salad was dried out lettuce with nothing special about it. The only thing enjoyable about this place is the amazing fried Grouper sandwich and tasty corn fritters...

We ate here on the 4th of July night about seven. Only place on the beach without a crazy wait--although they stuffed four of us into a booth for two. I guess that's the price one pays for trying to get in somewhere on a holiday weekend without a wait. We also got there right before it started pouring, which was also a plus. Anyway, the waitress was frazzled, but nice enough. She got our orders right. I ordered the broiled mahi-mahi. Nothing special--no seasoning or anything on it, although it came with rice. My stepdad got a hamburger, my mom got a salad, and my fiance got a tuna steak sandwich blackened. Didn't order any appetizers--maybe we should have, since it seemed like a rather long wait for our food. The corn fritters were just okay. Not sure what all the fuss is about there. This place must be doing something right, since it's been there for a long time. Or it relies on tourists only coming in once. My mom and stepdad are locals, and I'm a former local, and I know none of us had ever been there. Not sure if I would go there again. We were grateful for not having to wait to be seated at a most busy time.

Overall, a decent experience. Everything we ordered was good, however nothing really blew us away. The corn fritters, aka hush puppies, were delicious. Service was fantastic! Seated promptly, and our server was very nice. As stated, a decent restaurant that's worth a visit if your looking for a nice local restaurant.

Since this is about the only historic thing at Johns Pass, we had to go. The service was very friendly and the menu suited this old fish joint. The best deal is Mahi Mahi lightly blackened.

About TGI Friday

TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. TGI Friday also offers gluten-free items on its menu for those with gluten intolerance.

Besides the cool name, TGI Friday also has an interesting background story of its origin. The founder of the restaurant Alan Stillman lived in a New York-based neighbourhood full of a young crowd, especially girls from the airline and fashion industry. He started the first TGI Friday restaurant in New York in the hope of meeting single women as there weren't any such public place for young men and women to meet. He invested $5000 on his own and borrowed another $5000 from his mother to buy a bar named The Good Tavern and renamed the premise to Thank God It's Friday, inspired from an expression during his time at Bucknell University.
